Warsaw Planetarium Grand Opening: 8K Immersion and Scientific Wonder

On April 11, 2025, the Warsaw Planetarium, located within the Copernicus Science Centre (Centrum Nauki Kopernik), celebrated its grand reopening after a full-scale renovation. Known for hosting the International Planetarium Society conference in 2016, the venue is now setting a new global standard in immersive science education.

Cutting-edge 8K technology for a unique astronomical journey

The upgraded facility features a 16-meter dome equipped with a state-of-the-art 8K hybrid projection system. This next-generation setup combines a traditional optical starball with digital projection to deliver a deeply immersive stargazing experience.

Sony projection at its finest

The projection system is powered by Sony VPL-GTZ380 projectors, delivering native 4K resolution, outstanding brightness, and superior contrast — ideal for rendering the finest details of our universe in stunning clarity.

Immersive software for astronomy and beyond

The Warsaw Planetarium now runs two core software platforms that expand its educational and creative reach:

• SkyExplorer, our latest-generation astronomical simulator, enables the team to produce real-time, live planetarium shows that blend scientific accuracy with engaging storytelling.

• FreeDome, a multidisciplinary immersive solution, opens the doors to exploring biology, physics, and the arts in a dome setting, turning science communication into a visual experience.

A fully sensory upgrade

Beyond visuals, the renovation also included a complete overhaul of the lighting and audio systems to ensure an experience that stimulates all the senses — truly transporting audiences into space and beyond.
